Friendship in Youth Soccer

Quality friendships are made on the field participating in team sports. For that reason, “friendship” is one of the key messages of Youth Soccer Month, an annual celebration of the sport of soccer.

“Friends support you. They encourage you and cheer for you both on and of the field,” said Hilary McKenzie, a Youth Soccer Month clinic participant. “Some of my best friends are also on my soccer team. It is great because we get to spend so much time together and we have a lot in common.”

Soccer teaches players a lot about responsibility and being part of a team. Practicing and competing together gives teammates an excellent bond. This bond often leads to close friendships beyond the field.

Recognizing the impact and importance the sport of soccer plays in the day-to-day lives of America’s families, US Youth Soccer, with 3.2 million members, the nation’s largest youth sports association, is spearheading the fifth Youth Soccer Month – Celebrating Soccer in America, this September.

Throughout Youth Soccer Month a series of messages and themes will be communicated to illustrate the essence of youth soccer. Each week during Youth Soccer Month a different message will be the focus of “Celebrating Soccer in America.”
