Youth Soccer Month Offers Statewide Events

This week's focus for Youth Soccer Month is family. Indiana Youth Soccer celebrated with player clinics and Indiana Youth Soccer Nights at high school and collegiate games across the state. Approximately 100 Indiana Youth Soccer player participants also got the opportunity to participate in pre-game activities at the Chicago Fire Indiana Youth Soccer Night. Players enjoyed these activities and celebrated youth soccer with their families.

Olympic Gold Medalist and current US Women's National Team player Kristine Lilly commented on the ways that family is a focus of youth soccer: "It brings the family together because soccer at the youth level is a family experience – on weekends, after school or at night going to practices and games, playing at home with siblings or a parent. It’s a simple fun game, anyone can kick a ball and get as much enjoyment from the time you spend together doing it as you do from a fitness or skill development standpoint."

Summary of Last Week's YSM Events
Bethel College celebrated Indiana Youth Soccer Weekend with their Men's Soccer Tournament including two games on Friday and two games on Saturday. In conjunction with the game, Bethel College and Indiana Youth Soccer's Vince Ganzberg offered a free player's clinic at Newton Park. The Bethel Women's Soccer Team rounded out the weekend with a game against Trinity College.

In Southern Indiana, SWISA and Castle High School celebrated youth soccer month at Tuesday night's Castle High School games. The Indiana Youth Soccer Month proclamation was read at the Boys and Girls Varsity double-header.

The final Chicago Fire Indiana Youth Soccer Night was held on Saturday, September 15 at Toyota Park. Indiana Youth Soccer players were featured in a pre-game scrimmage, while others served as ball kids, flag kids and Tunnel of Fire participants. All participants received a Chicago Fire t-shirt and memories to last a lifetime.
