| Spring Safety Reminders |
 |
Spring is in the air, and now is the time to remind coaches, players and parents that goal safety is everyone's responsibility.
According to Anchored for Safety, in their current design, only 22 pounds of force can tip an unanchored 400-pound goal, with potentially devastating results. Unanchored goals can also blow into streets, buildings, and cars causing property damage. High winds or climbing kids can easily cause goals to topple causing injury or death.
Here are some suggestions on goal safety courtesy of Pullen Insurance Services:
1) Implement a goal safety program at your club, park, or neighborhood.
2) Program elements should consist of the following:
a) Prevention
- Inspect goals always and often; - Coaches should inspect goals before every use at practices and games; - Parents should inspect goals whenever any kids are playing near a goal; - Referees should inspect goals before every game. b) Education - Educate about the dangers of unanchored goals; - Educate about the dangers of players moving goals - even when supervised; - Educate about the dangers of hanging on, climbing or playing on goals.
3) Resources
