 |
Congratulations to former Indiana Youth Soccer and Carmel United player Lauren Cheney who was named U.S. Soccer's Young Female Athlete of the Year for 2007. A player can only win the Young Athlete award once in their career. This is Lauren's fourth major national award. She is also a finalist for the Hermann award to be announced on January 11.
Previously, she was named the 2007 Soccer America College Women's Player of the Year and the Top Drawer Soccer National Player of the Year for 2007. Lauren was also the Soccer Buzz National Freshman of the Year in 2006.
Cheney divided her time during the year, captaining the Under-20s National team to the silver medal at the Pan American Games, while also getting her first caps with the full national team in 2007. She had a fantastic sophomore season at UCLA, leading the #1 ranked Bruins to the Final Four. She set a school record for points, scoring 23 times along with 11 assists. Congratulations Lauren!
