The following are results directly from the survey that was posted:
Participants:
  • 47%      Parents
  • 26%      Team Managers
  • 14%      Coaches
  •   8%     Directors of Coaching
  •   5%     Players/Other

State Cup and Challenge Cup Finals
  • 70%      June 4-6  for State Cup
  • 30%      June 11-13 for State Cup
  • 58%      June 4-6 for Challenge Cup
  • 42%      June 11-13 for Challenge
  • 50%      State and Challenge Cup Finals should be on the same weekend.
  • 84%      State Cup should remain at selecting 16 teams per age group
  • 54%      No – do not add a separate middle tier event (i.e. separate Presidents Cup event) between State and Challenge Cup

Tryout Date Results:
  • 32%      June 6-13 date range for U14 and younger teams
  • 33%      June 14-20 date range for U14 and younger teams
  • 22%      June 6-13 date range for U15 and older teams
  • 27%      June 14-20 date range for U15 and older teams
  • 27%      Mid October to Early November for U15 and older teams
  • 62%      YES - U09/U10 tryouts should be allowed earlier than the U11 and older tryouts

Other factors considered in determining the dates were:
  1. Travel league play requires the first week/weekend in June to be able to complete league season play (143 games were played after June 1 in 2009).
  2. A vast majority of the central and northern Indiana high school graduations are the first weekend in June. (Southern Indiana high schools are generally finished by mid-late May) This impacts the families of participants, not just the U18 teams/families
  3. The purpose of the State Cup is to name a state champion to advance and represent the best of Indiana at the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series Region II event. Allowing the maximum rest period from tournament play over Memorial weekend (in which a vast majority of travel teams participate) is in the best interest of the players
  4. An overwhelming majority, both in the meetings and the comments received in the survey, prefer the tryouts are earlier in June to avoid the IHSAA moratorium week and family vacations.
  5. General discussion and survey comments state that the method for selecting the 2009 Presidents Cup participants (highest ranked ISL team not advancing to State Cup finals) is the best method to select these teams to avoid adding a separate level tournament at this time.
  6. Prior to 2008, a large majority of the clubs held high school age tryouts in the fall even though they were allowed (by the rules) to hold them in early June.
  7. Regionals affect 14 teams.  There are literally hundreds of teams in the state that should not need to wait until these 14 teams finish Cup play to hold tryouts.
  8. 2010 Regionals are on June 25 to 30th.  Holding tryouts after this date means the tryouts would actually be during the IHSAA moratorium week or the following week of July 5.
