1995 Boys Lightning White

2007-2008 RSC U13B Lightning White Team Season in Review

Last June 2008 we formed the U14B Lightning white team. We added three new competitive players to the roster. We started training the first week in August and attended two summer tournaments. We took first place in both the Brighton and Troy tournaments. Over Labor Day we attend a very competitive tournament in London Ontario in their premier gold division. They had excellent competition and we had great success with a 1-1-1 record. In Ontario the age groups are ½ year older which gave us a greater competitive challenge against bigger and faster players. In league play, we again competed in the MSPSP premier 1 division. The competition was very good where we finished in the middle of the division. We were competitive against all teams in this division with opportunities to win every game played. We beat the division finalists and lost to the division winners in an off game 4-2. We trained two times per week over the winter and competed indoor at Fraser Total Soccer in the high school second division. Games were played against JV and some Varsity teams. The RSC team is made up of mostly 8th graders so we found each game very challenging. Most teams had size and speed on us. The RSC boys lost many of the first session games and continued to make progress winning more of their games by the end of the 2nd session. They learned to play more physical, quicker with improved movement on and off the ball. We also took second place in a Grand Rapids area Futsal tournament in February. For third session we scheduled our own scrimmages and attended early tournaments. In February we added runs with fitness and strength training on Sundays to prepare for the outdoor season. We were competitive in a Cincinnati tournament and were finalists in the Kalamazoo Kingdom tournament. In state cup we got off to a slow start improving with each game. As the spring season progresses, we have had great success in MSPSP premier division 1. Our biggest handicap this spring is the lack of a dedicated and consistent goalie at practices and games. Other players have stepped up to fill in when the goalie is not present and we have still managed a very successful season, showing the level of commitment and talent on this team. Our goal for next season is to locate and train a dedicated goalie. This has been a great season of learning and building on our Brazilian style of play. We have had many competitive and exciting well played games. For our final tournament of the season we attended the Warrior Classic over Memorial day weekend, where we successfully competed against the OSYSA U14 Champions and a quarter finalist team. We look forward to tryouts and the formation of our 2009-2010 team. The boys will play high school in the fall returning to play club indoor and outdoor in the spring. RSC has open tryouts in June selecting the most qualified players for their premier team. If you are series about soccer and have the talent and desire to play on a premier team we hope to see you at our tryouts. The U14 team was coached by Tom Cardinal a US National and Brazilian licensed coach.
