State Cup Seeding
Based on recommendations from
the Illinois Youth Soccer Association’s (“IYSA”) Technical
Committee, the IYSA Board of Directors made the decision
to seed this year’s State Cup b y placing the top 8 seeds in the round of 16. In the past, only the four
top teams were seeded.
The actual seeding was conducted
by the State Cup Seeding Committee comprised of club
coaches. Criteria for seeding included but were not
limited to the following: previous year’s State
Cup, Midwest Regional League, U.S. Youth Soccer Regional
Championships, roster changes/player movement, Strength
of schedule, and other information from the Technical
Committee.
This is only the second year
that the State Cup
Seeding Committee has been in existence. There
are separate committees for the boys and the girls.
The purpose of this committee is to provide a good
working knowledge of the youth soccer landscape and
the relative strengths, accomplishments and weaknesses
of the teams. For the team to be considered for
seeding, its State Cup entry for the current year’s
competition must be on file at the IYSA office.
This process, while being as fair and equitable as
is possible, is far from perfect. In an attempt to
improve the seeding process, the criteria for selecting
the seeded teams and their placement are always under
review. If you have any ideas regarding the seeding,
please email Ian Mulliner at doc@illinoisyouthsoccer.org.
